At dawn
He struggles
To lay the blanket away

Another day is here
No strength within
To face it

But he encourages himself
And gets ready for the day
He wears his glasses

And wears a smile
Just as he did to the glasses
It's the only way
He knows to hide his torment

No one asks the smiley face
How are you twice
It works
It has worked for decades

At dusk
He lays aside the glasses
And the smile alike
Then tears have their way
